00:51.16TAsnmwester, isn't that utterly slow?
00:51.21TAsnhow can i get it on sd?
00:51.28jajhi! does anybody know how I can raise a userland event when the AUX button, for instance, is pressed?
00:51.47cjbjaj: you might run lshal --monitor and see if it gets exposed that way.
00:51.52cjbor look at the zhone hooks for the AUX button
00:52.10jajcjb: thank you
00:52.11mwesterslow?  It's more along the lines of an auto that won't start, and when it tries to, the engine falls out onto the floor --- speed is not a factor in measuring yet. :D
00:52.45mwesterPerhaps the upcoming 2008.9 release will be more in the lines of something usable.
00:52.56mwester(but yes, I have put 2008.8 on SD card)

01:00.38jajmwester: it's all about choice ;)
01:00.59slaxxinan u have to try it to make that choice
01:01.13mwesterThe huge number of "alternative" images should make it pretty clear to management at Om that they have missed the mark, and totally failed to make use of the community.
01:01.22slaxxingosh
01:01.27mwesterBut that's been the problem since the early days of the GTA01.
01:01.40jajok, zhone is written in python and it combines spaces and tabs for indentation...
01:01.46zionanyone happen to know a good work around for " pth_mctx.c:476:2: error: #error "Unsupported Linux (g)libc version and/or platform""   when using MokoMakefile?
01:01.48slaxxinok   its time to step up to the plate this time
01:02.11TAsnnewest uboot can boot from ext3 means i don't have to make the kernel partition vfat right?
01:02.42mwesterTAsn:  correct.  But there might be other reasons you would choose to put the kernel on a small vfat partition anyway.
01:02.51TAsnwhich are?
01:04.01mwesterIf it gets corrupted, you don't loose your rootfs, just a small partition that's easily backed up.  If you must, you can remove the SD card and use it in any card reader on any PC to repair the filesystem or even put a new kernel on it; no Linux system required.
01:04.52mwesterIf you make it a bit bigger, you can use it to back up files and settings between flashing new rootfs images.
01:05.26mwesterYou can even make it mount read-only, so that your kernel (and the data you also put on that partition) are protected during most crashes.
01:06.35TAsn:)
01:06.47TAsndone, thanks :)

10:14.26prjktdtntthe only problem is that you can then hear the gsm interference in the call, not sure if that is because of how close the phone is to the other though

10:18.26prjktdtntShlee: just remember that alsamixer doesn't automatically update the state files
10:18.32ShleeNods.
10:18.55prjktdtntit does however give you a good idea of what value to put in the controls
10:19.36hamaafter chaged it "alsactl store" will do the job
10:21.03prjktdtnthama: for asound.state it does but I'm pretty sure that alsactl doesn't modify files such as gsmhandset.state
10:22.16hamaprjktdtnt: so they override the values u mean?
10:23.04prjktdtnthama: the gsmhandest.state or anything from /usr/share/openmoko/scenarios will overwrite asound.state when the scenario is called by the phone's respective packages
10:23.25hamai see
10:25.08prjktdtnteasiest example is when you answer a call that is set for the handset speaker it sets asound.state to match gsmhandset.state
10:26.20prjktdtntat least that's how it is with FDOM
10:26.43prjktdtntWhich would also apply to 2008.8-update

17:39.10jonsmith1982its got wifi, i rekon a firewall is needed.
17:39.10nyujonsmith1982: busybox is used intentionally for size reasons.  this is common in embedded devices

17:40.03nyujonsmith1982: firewalls to protect the same computer in which they run are only needed in unsafe environments (like ms-windows)
17:40.19nyuif you trust the software you run, there's no reason to block it
17:40.29viqIt's a computer which moves a lot between networks, has full networking capabilities, and a couple services running - and quite a bit of very personal data. And you're saying you don't want firewall on it?

17:41.00jonsmith1982nyu, fair point but like mjr said its useful for sharing gprs connections also.
17:41.41nyuviq: you don't need a firewall to restrain sshd, because you can tell it not to listen in that interface directly

17:42.38nyuyeah, mjr has a point

17:43.34cjbviq has a point too -- we're talking about a device that says root logins to ssh enabled with an empty password by default.
17:43.59cjbworks at MIT, where DHCP gives you a globally-routeable IP and there are no firewalls and seemingly everyone in the world likes to hack machines there.

20:08.47ahuhohuparodyoflanguage: Well, that's with OpenMoko. The phone is usable with Qtopia. It should be usable with OpenMoko latest builds too (I still have not managed to install them), but there are too much issues with them. I'm not aware if the suspend problem exists on FR, I'm not even sure I fixed it. I just made my kernel not to write to the port of my modem.

23:54.43kelvieQtopia?
23:55.08Staticwave_Aceyeah
23:55.11kelviewhy?
23:55.25Staticwave_Acewell, you could waste a lot of effort on 4.3 if something big changes

23:55.40kelviethey'll be binary compatible
23:55.50Staticwave_Acethat's always the goal

23:56.15Staticwave_Acealright then

23:56.48kelviethere aren't any major changes, just some nice additions (such as QtWebkit)
