00:30.11lufpali: thanks. I downloaded the new version.
00:30.43Paliok, it should work (but there can be again some errors...)

14:46.16timmywhere can i get the kernel for cssu manually? i need to flash it manually
14:49.25DocScrutinizer05he meant thumb-enabled kernel for cssu-thumb
14:50.14DocScrutinizer05where did you get it last time?
14:51.25timmyi had downloaded that through a full update to cssu-thumb, but at this moment i need to download that manually from the repositories
14:52.02DocScrutinizer05well, freemangordon and Pali should know

15:35.24DocScrutinizer05anyway, highly recommended read (even if you think you know already about it, it's not a bad idea to REread): http://maemo.merlin1991.at/cssu/meetings/2012-05-14.txt
15:36.38DocScrutinizer05wonders what's state of this essential project for determining and securing CSSU future development
15:40.41DocScrutinizer05anybody did *anything* to progress this? anybody found any problems in hindsight that we all missed out back when? Anybody meanwhile wraped his head around how this concept is basically obsoleting large parts of MP-concept by giving users freedom of choice rather than forcing them into a all-or-nothing situation?

16:13.54DocScrutinizer05btw for deploying $randomnumber optional packages to $user, I again suggest to exploit restore function. Have a look into /home/user/MyDocs/backups/*/* (or wherever you might find your backuptool dirs)
16:15.07DocScrutinizer05deploying an edited version of such dir and then starting backup-app to restore it will open a nice dialog for user to select which of the packages to restore, and then use HAM to install them one by one
16:16.17DocScrutinizer05seems absolutely appropriate to e.g. offer users of CSSU-T to one-click-join the bleeding-edge-of-everything inner circle
16:17.13DocScrutinizer05I'm pondering to deploy a "Doc's finest (a user's digest)"
16:17.44kerioDocScrutinizer05: can you do that to non-user packages?
16:18.46DocScrutinizer05I dunno, but from a file structure perspective I wouldn't see why not
16:18.57DocScrutinizer05might need red-pill though
16:19.21DocScrutinizer05how ould any user be interested in installing non-user packages?
16:20.16DocScrutinizer05or rather, non-visible packages as of HAM POV
16:20.46*** join/#maemo-ssu _rd (~rd@87.180.150.132)
16:21.06kerioDocScrutinizer05: procps :)
16:21.15DocScrutinizer05since <see above>, about cssuR etc packages and the way they're supposed to be visible in HAM
16:21.40kerioalso zomg, libc6 update
16:21.49keriodo i want to run it while on the road?
16:21.50DocScrutinizer05kerio: how would procps get installed on anything non CSSU? how on CSSU even?
16:21.57kerioidk
16:22.04keriowhat about the -gnu tools?
16:22.09kerioare they visible in HAM?
16:22.15DocScrutinizer05afaik those are user?
16:22.24DocScrutinizer05nfc
16:22.41DocScrutinizer05if they're not visible, they won't go optional
16:22.45keriocamera-ui isn't userful
16:23.02DocScrutinizer05it will be, as soon as it goes cssuR
16:24.01DocScrutinizer05that's the use of the suggested intermediate *-NOKIA package that depends on the original nokia package not in user
16:24.24DocScrutinizer05besides it also serves for conflicting with the cssu pkg
16:29.01DocScrutinizer05so camera-ui-cssu is visible/user and imports the nicocam binary camera-ui.  camera-ui-NOKIA is visible/user and depends on (invisible) Nokia genuine camera-ui pkg which imports nokia binary camera-ui. camera-ui-cssuR is visible/user and installs nicocam camera-ui2 in parallel to original camera-ui
16:29.41DocScrutinizer05cameraui-cssu and camera-ui-NOKIA conflict with each other
16:30.06DocScrutinizer05so when you install one, you automatically nuke the other one
16:31.12DocScrutinizer05any questions, Watson err kerio?
16:32.10DocScrutinizer05kerio: libc6 update never meant going to be optional - kernel though is
16:33.36DocScrutinizer05since the lib doesn't neet the pselect bugfix, it will happily work without it in the same way it did all the last 4 years
16:33.51DocScrutinizer05(fallback)
16:33.57DocScrutinizer05need*
16:35.48DocScrutinizer05and we damn shure should secure it's like that, since users might want to run bfs-kernel or whatever nonsense they could come up with, even their own kernel build, and CSSU so far worked with all those kernels, we don't want to change to the worse regarding this cssu property
16:35.58DocScrutinizer05sure*
16:39.20DocScrutinizer05kerio: also note that the scheme of mutually conflicting pks could also work for non-user pkgs via apt, as lonk as friggin MP is not dropping the ball in the game
16:40.06DocScrutinizer05messybox is a particularly evil example how to NOT do it
16:40.14DocScrutinizer05re procps
16:43.02DocScrutinizer05basically you'd need a 'meta'package for each of the messybox applets like ps, ls, whatnot, each installing the symlink only, providing the property, and depending on messybox
16:43.59DocScrutinizer05so you could install procps and by conflict it should uninstall messybox-ps
16:45.04*** join/#maemo-ssu dhbiker (~dhbiker@95.87.145.172)
16:46.10DocScrutinizer05though ps not exactly the best example either, since messybox ps applet is fubar anyway

20:22.39DocScrutinizer05[2012-11-04 21:15:32] <fil> would it not be a good idea to flush fapman off of people's systems by having one of these CSSU packages conflict with it?  (or has that already happened, and I missed it because I'm not getting updates?)
20:22.41DocScrutinizer05[2012-11-04 21:16:28] <DocScrutinizer05> hey, nice idea
20:23.15DocScrutinizer05HAM post-install?
20:25.10tadzikuncool
20:34.33MrPinguIMO, big fat warning on wiki, cssu installation not use FAM seems good enough to me
20:34.57tadzikI didn't have any problems with FAM, neither on cssu nor on thumb
20:35.03tadzikit doesn't do system updates anyway
20:35.35MrPinguNo because the cssu-repo isn't added to your FAM?
20:36.13tadzikpossibly, yes
20:36.29tadzikso there is a solution, apparently
20:38.13MrPinguuntill you reimport HAM-repos, FAM *can* do systemupdates
20:39.29MrPinguAlso  uses autoremove and autoremove might fsck dependencies
20:39.44MrPingu*FAM uses
20:52.18*** join/#maemo-ssu arcean_ (~arcean@aadb106.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl)
21:06.05DocScrutinizer05yep, fapman *is* deprecated and known to fsckup your system eventually, and we already got a bugfixed HAM version in CSSU and we all hope to get a HAM version that can handle CSSU-optional packages sooner rather than later, and then fapman is absolute #1 on the noflight list
21:14.56tadzikhm, I didn't know that it's deprecated
21:15.08tadzikotoh, HAM is still a PITA to use
21:15.29tadziknot sure if it's better to just use 'apt-get update' for quick stuff
21:18.53MrPinguhows aptitude?
21:21.36tadziknever tried it on the device
21:21.48MrPinguMe neither :P
