09:21.07cp15Good morning
09:21.18bweghits nearly lunchtime ;)
09:21.28rob_w_awayhey guys . i am back later
09:21.45bweghnice time in real life. bob
09:21.58bweghwhy do you all use gpe and not opie?
09:22.00cp15http://www.total-knowledge.com/~ilya/mips/ugt.html
09:23.30cp15I like gpe more (even if the opie apps are somewhat better and prettier) because it has a better concept for process communication (dbus) and data storage (sqlite)
09:24.03cp15How far did you get with linux on the BA?
09:24.10bweghbut it would be able to use opie on ba just by using an opie image instead of the gpe image  - or not?
09:24.44cp15Probably it would need some tweaks. Feel free to try it
09:24.45bweghi got gpe running
09:25.00cp15Ah, ok. What are you still missing?
09:25.02bweghbut only about 3 mins then the sys hangs
09:25.23cp15You can't get it reactivated via the power button?
09:25.37bweghbtw: the usbnet problem was due to a missing dir for pivot_root
09:25.43bweghno i cant
09:26.03cp15Ok, then rename /usr/bin/apm to /usr/bin/apm.no
09:26.11cp15This will disable suspend
09:26.28bweghrob told me that a newer xfbdev could help, too
09:27.01cp15You need a newer X server when your session gets lost, but this seems to be a different problem
09:28.36cp15I have seen in the logs you find gpe slow
09:28.42cp15This has two reasons:
09:29.11cp151. The kernel is compiled with slab debug, which slows it down a bit
09:29.41cp15I got a error message from the slab subsystem, and hoped to get more information with the debug option
09:29.52cp152. It runs from SD card, which is slow
09:30.19cp15Currently, the system gets a interrupt every halfword transferred from/to SD card
09:30.32cp15I hope this can be improved
09:30.35bweghouch .... ok, that realy slows a system dowm
09:30.38bwegh*down
09:31.02cp15Anyway I will soon try to install the system on DOC.
09:31.18bweghDOC?
09:31.32cp15Haven't used windows for anything else than booting linux for over a month, so I won't miss it
09:31.37cp15Disk On Chip
09:31.45bweghi see
09:31.57cp15The M-Systems flash on the BA (size about 64 MB)
09:32.35bweghi know ... if tried to make an image of it - remember? :(
09:32.53cp15Yes, I remember
09:32.55bweghseems like my system is broken ...
09:33.23cp15I hope the partitioning currently used for the DOC can be removed or isn't a problem for linux
09:33.53cp15Don't care, you can boot linux, that is enough :-)
09:34.01bweghwill you run linux on a ramdisk or from the chip then?
09:34.18bweghi am talking about my linux system !
09:34.33bweghthere comes no x screen up
09:34.47cp15From the chip. I don't like the ramdisk thing, because all data will get lost on battery failure
09:34.54cp15Can you login?
09:35.01bwegh"ts_tsc2200_open: init work queue ..."
09:35.11bwegh"ts_tsc2200_open: set irq ...."
09:35.22bwegh"ts_tsc2200_open: 47FE"
09:35.48bwegh"ts_tsc2200_close: closing tsc2200."
09:35.50bweghall the time
09:35.59bweghyes, can login via usbnet
09:36.10cp15Then execute /etc/init.d/gpe-dm stop first
09:36.21bweghjust switched off apm and moved the apm to apm.disabled
09:36.49bweghdone
09:37.35cp15Then try to run Xfbdev manually
09:38.30bweghmy mistake
09:38.49bweghforgot to give Xfbdev the x flag
09:39.03cp15x flag?
09:39.18bweghexecution flag in the filesystem
09:39.23bweghrwx
09:39.27cp15Oh, ok :-)
09:39.48bweghas which user is Xfbdev started?
09:40.50cp15root
09:40.58bweghgpe is up again :)
09:41.40bweghyou asked me for things i miss:
09:41.46bwegh- look and feel doesnt work
09:41.48bwegh- sound
09:41.56bwegh- power management
09:42.05bwegh- sms, phone
09:42.45cp15Ok,
09:43.20cp15look and feel: I don't care really now, probably a gpe bug which can be fixed later
09:43.42cp15sound: Should work (record and play), but only in stereo and 16 bit
09:44.19bweghhow can i test it?
09:44.38cp15You have to do (in /etc/modutils) the following commands:
09:44.47cp15echo snd-uda1380 >snd-uda1380
09:44.53cp15echo i2c-pxa >i2c-pxa
09:45.04cp15echo snd-mixer-oss >snd-mixer-oss
09:45.19cp15echo snd-pcm-oss >snd-pcm-oss
09:45.41cp15echo blueangel_audio >zblueangel_audio
09:45.52cp15The z in the last command is not a mistake
09:46.01bweghi know
09:46.06cp15power management:
09:46.24bweghcant i make a single file with all the module names (each in a line)?
09:46.46cp15I think you can. It probably was a mistake on my side when I set it up
09:47.21cp15I destroyed a spare battery which I will modify today to measure the power consumption and see how it can be improved
09:47.28bweghok, ill try , because i would prefer a file like blueangel_sound with all the modules listed needed for it
09:47.49cp15It should work, and I would also prefer it
09:48.09cp15But blueangel_audio must come last, this is important
09:48.16bweghso i will do it the way mentioned on the "fire and run"-system
09:48.33bweghi will do it the order you mentioned them
09:48.54cp15I think we also have to debug your suspend problem...
09:49.22bweghwell my screen was flattering when apmd was running now it isnt
09:50.18cp15sms, phone: I will probably release a new gomunicator version today. It has still a lot of bugs, but the basic things should work
09:51.13bweghbasic things are?
09:52.37bweghanother thing which would be good to know: how can i type eg "-" with the keyboard of the ba?
09:53.18cp15The onscreen one or the pull-out one?
09:53.28bweghpull-out
09:54.39cp15Do you get a "/" or nothing at all?
09:54.55bweghnothing at all
09:55.37cp15Then you need a newer kernel. Maybe at the end of the weekend. There are also some other keys which do not work
09:55.51bweghok
10:11.07cp15BTW: What is your board id?
10:14.52bweghone moment
10:15.02bweghwhat is so special with the board id?
10:15.18cp15There are at least two different BA versions on the market
10:15.34cp15With different LCD display
10:15.48cp15I just want to know whether there is a third one
10:16.17cp15A, I think I know why your BA didn't wakeup from suspend. You probably haven't loaded blueangel_buttons?
10:16.49cp15Ah... blueangel_kp, sorry
10:17.05bweghwell it didnt suspend at all, at least not the way i expected it
10:17.15bweghthe lcd was still on
10:17.23bweghbut i was unable to do anything
10:18.10cp15Then you probably have a 0x5 BA, at which the lcd suspend code is not yet complete
10:19.10bweghwhere can i find the board id?
10:20.54cp15It is probably already out of the dmesg buffer
10:21.00cp15dmesg | grep -i boardid
10:21.44cp15dmesg | grep -i "board id"
10:22.30bweghget an error: "urxvt: can't get\ncolour '#969696',\ncontinuing without."
10:22.39bweghafter closing the root-shell
10:23.17bweghand now i have a clock all the time
10:23.35bweghill reboot into ramdisk to check my board id
10:23.55cp15It is not that important, you don't have to reboot for it
10:26.23bweghi dont have the permission to open the mixer
10:26.42bweghcan i change the permissions of the dev or will they change after reboot again?
10:26.48cp15Ah, ok, that is another thing which has to be changed
10:28.06cp15Just a moment
10:28.26bweghok
10:31.59cp15See http://pastebin.com/426446 for what has to be changed
10:35.01cp15I will be away for about 1 hour now, I have to buy some things to be able to measure current consumption
10:38.47bweghok, i will go in about 1 hour for an hour, too
10:38.53bweghthanks and see you later

11:02.30llangeHello ! People who use an X-based linux platform, which X server is it ? Is it Xfbdev ? If so, do you know which device it expects regarding touchscreen ? I'm using Xfbdev from initrd-2.6.12-hh2 (wiki) and it complains on missing touchscreen. In the binary, there are evocations of /dev/ts or /dev/h3600_ts. Do you know if there is a version compiled with the input layer ?
11:10.41llangeSorry stupid question : found the answer in /linuxrc.
11:13.59bweghllange, working?
11:14.23llangebwegh: depends on what you mean by that :-)
11:14.34bweghare you able to use the ts?
11:16.34llangeWell I can use it with the input interface (modprobe evdev , evtest /dev/input/0 ) yes. But I still have issues with /dev/touchscreen . May be I need to insmod a touchscreen interface, I'm looking into this. (btw I'm on Himalaya, not BlueAngel)
11:18.14llangeI think I need to insert tsdev. I'm trying it right now.
11:20.10bweghon blueangel you have to load evdev and blueangel_ts3, maybee you need to load the himalaya_ts
11:20.50bweghtry to load himalaya_ts3
11:24.24llangethanks I'll try. Btw, does usb work for you ?
11:25.35bweghone moment
11:27.38bweghyes, but only if i have booted linux while it was in the cradle when using windows and so was connected to my linux using windows
11:31.03llangecan you confirm it is using interrupt #4 for usb ? ( cat /proc/interrupts )
11:31.53bweghyes
11:31.55bweghsame her
11:31.58bwegh*here
11:32.10bweghgtg will be back in about 1,5 h
11:32.17llangeThanks. Ok.
12:30.06llangeX (raw) working on the Himalaya....  A minor issue with the touchscreen : near the center of the screen, the X cursor follows the stylus, however when approaching the border of the screen, there is an offset. (eg when the stylus is at (0,0), the X cursor is at (15,15) ). Is there a calibration procedure ? =)
12:33.27llangeNow I need to solve the USB issue, in order to use g_ether and mount root by NFS, as the current ramdisk is too small. And the SD driver is not working on the himalaya yet (It seems it's not the same ASIC as the BlueAngel).

13:06.07bweghback
13:50.04cp15Some interesting blueangel power consumption values (linux)
13:50.51cp15GPE Desktop, full brightness: 268 mA, minimum brightness 138 mA, backlight off 125 mA
13:52.19cp15Suspended 88 mA
13:52.52cp15Endless loop in CPU: +142 mA
13:53.23cp15Suspend in Windows: 7 mA
13:53.33cp15Seems there is room for improvement :-)
13:55.52bweghhehe
13:55.58bweghsounds like, yes
13:56.04cp15Interesting: With radio logged in: -32 mA
13:56.20cp15The radio takes more power when not logged in... Strange
13:56.21bhimaHow'd you measure?
13:56.39cp15I have destroyed a battery and soldered some cables to it
13:56.47bhimacp15: it's listening more often, on more frequencies, rather than listening in sync.
13:59.27cp15Ah, ok, that explains a lot
13:59.36cp15Now I try to power off the radio
13:59.58bhimaI've often heard people whining about buildings with poor coverage - their batteries die much sooner.
14:05.46cp15Seems the power consumption of the radio when logged in is close to zero
14:06.13cp15But I only take a snapshot of the current
14:06.38cp15To get a exact value, one has probably do the average current over a few minutes
14:15.58bhimaYeah.
14:34.54bweghcp15, my sound is working, still got all the time the watch as my ts pointer, leds seems to work, keyboard (pull out) work (without the keys mentioned)
14:35.05bweghnot working is sms/phone and power safe
14:35.12bweghand buttons
14:35.55bweghcouldnt find a module called blueangel_buttons
14:39.41bweghdoes the gommunicator work under opie, too?
14:39.49cp15No
14:40.09cp15blueangel_buttons was a mistake from me, you have to use blueangel_kp
14:41.27cp15But I don't think it would be too dificult to write a qpe gui for gomunicator
14:44.44bweghis there an app like the gomunicator for qpe?
14:45.41cp15I don't think so
14:46.04rob_w_awaycp15, i see you are progressing on the power consumptions
14:46.20cp15Yes, I try at least
14:46.40cp15I got it already to suspend to the lowest level, but it crashes on wakeup
14:46.43rob_wwhere did you see those values ?? is the battery module fixed
14:47.29cp15No, I destroyed a battery, soldered some cables to it and used a current meter. I don't think the BA can measure it's current on it's own.
14:49.06rob_wcool
14:49.25bhimaWell, there's definitely hardware inside capable of doing that measurement - but there's a reasonable chance that it's hooked up to some microcontroller instead of the CPU, for example.
14:52.01cp15Hmm... There is the keyboard controller, the gsm radio processor and maybe something unknown in dpram asic
14:53.14cp15Ah... Wait... Maybe it is the strange register in the tsc2200
14:53.40cp15The value went up when the battery went down. Maybe it is the current
14:54.21bhimaMaybe it's hooked up backwards? :)
14:55.12bhimaI do mean that seriously, though. That is possible.
14:57.51rob_wmaybe bluetooth is also running alwaysw
14:58.13cp15I will take a look at it when better suspend works
15:00.31cp15The bluetooth driver is already somewhat intelligent: Bluetooth gets only powered up when the bluetooth uart is opened
15:01.13rob_wor maybe our good friend "wifi"
15:01.55cp15If wifi would be powered on always, the battery would die within 3 hours
15:02.01cp15It consumes lot of power
15:02.12cp15So much power that the device gets even warm
15:02.33bhimaThat's about what I get on my h5555.
15:06.18bweghwhat could it be that makes my lcd flatter? there is not apmd running
15:06.34bhimaflatter?
15:07.10bweghlike the frequency is to low
15:07.22bweghit seems to blink
15:08.14bweghflutter, sorry ;)
15:08.21bhimaInteresting. Turned the brightness up more?
15:09.02bweghit is to the max, dont think that it turned up more
15:09.34bweghalthought i didnt pay attention to the brightness
15:16.15cp15Have you checked your board id?
15:25.00rob_w, crap i left my stylus in the car and now my wife is gone ....
15:25.32rob_wbwegh, so do you get Xfbdev startet at all ?
15:28.09rob_wboth battery.c and ts3 have that  TSC2200_CTRLREG_ADC_AD1
15:28.41rob_wcould this be the reason why i get the battery messages so often ,, as it is trigger on the touch and by nature you shouldnt trigger for battery ?!?
15:29.00rob_w... that often
15:47.30bweghrob_w, yes, xfbdev is started, gpe running
15:47.36bweghcp15, not yet, will check it now
15:55.45bweghcp15: board id is 0x6
16:10.44bweghnow it isnt fluttering, seems to depend on whicht time i put the ba into the cradle during haret starting
16:35.39bweghwhat is the current version of the gomunicator?
16:35.44bweghi found 0.1.3
16:39.40cp15Do you want a current ipkg?
16:41.20rob_wbwegh, use cp15 `s one
16:42.11bweghwould be nice, cp15
16:42.26bweghhave installed the 0.1.3
16:42.35bweghbut it crashes while starting :/
16:43.27cp15Install strace
16:49.48bweghstrace is installed and now?
16:50.58cp15Install the new version, and if it also crashes do a strace -f /usr/bin/gomunicator to see why it crashes
16:57.06bweghno lib "libpangocairo-1.0.so.0" "cannot open shared object file: Nu such file or directory"
17:00.13cp15Hmm... Let me check
17:04.44cp15Copy this file to /usr/lib and run ldconfig
17:04.57cp15Probably I have linked to newer oe libs
17:05.17cp15I am away now for a hour, have to do some other work
17:06.33bweghok
17:06.38bweghsee you and thanks
17:19.28bweghthe new version is not running still missing libs
17:19.48bweghbut the old version wants to run but is not able to find /dev/gsm
17:20.04bweghrob_w, do you know which module to load to have gsm support?
17:20.33rob_wwaht is the error you get ?
17:20.35bweghbtw: what is blueangel_suspend for?
17:20.59bweghit just crashes and strace tells me that gomunicator is unable to open /dev/gsm
17:21.13rob_wi guess that will be the module to cover all missing but ba related things for suspend
17:21.48bweghwell power management is not the problem of the moment
17:22.02bweghi want to be able to write sms and phone with my phone ;)
17:22.16rob_wthings which are not covered in any other driver module
17:22.30bweghso i should load it?
17:22.34rob_whehe , be prepared for some obstacles ..
17:22.37rob_wno
17:22.54rob_wu can live without ba_suspend for a while
17:23.05bweghi guess so
17:23.37bweghso do you know how to get the /dev/gsm?
17:24.48bweghand how do i get the context menu without the mouse in the panel? (the "windows right click -menu")
17:27.03rob_w/dev/gsm0 is a nothing
17:27.25rob_wthat is the default device from gomunicator .. feel free to symlink your gsm port to it like
17:27.36rob_wln -s /dev/tts/0 /dev/gsm
17:27.40rob_wln -s /dev/tts/0 /dev/gsm0
17:30.16bweghthat didnt do it ...
17:30.30rob_wwhat error do yoiu get ?
17:30.56bweghcould not initialise the phone at /dev/gsm0 via string
17:32.21rob_wah , right
17:34.05rob_wuse this as a binary
17:34.47bweghill eat something now ... will be back in about half an hour
17:35.10rob_wok that is a binary

18:58.14bweghthanks for the gsminit. rob_w, but it still isnt working
18:59.31bweghcp15: there is at least one more library needed: libcairo.so.2
19:01.17bweghdoes the fluttering screen go away with a newer kernel ? (current: h3900 2.6.12-hh2)
19:06.29cp15Don't know. I don't have the problem
19:07.50llangeHello cp15. Still having my Himalaya IRQ problems with USB. Do you have any idea ?
19:08.25cp15The "irq locks the system" message comes when the interrupt source isn't cleared
19:08.51cp15Try to make a printk in the pxa usb interrupt handler to see if it gets called
19:09.04llangehmm.. ok.
19:24.10cp15bewgh: Still there?
19:24.13bweghagain
19:25.23bweghdo you have the same id, cp15 ?
19:25.29cp15Yes

19:26.03bweghand same kernel?
19:26.20cp15No, probably not
