09:03.37jackCardshello all, any recomendations for a embedded system that will handle usb webcams ?
09:07.09lo127jackCards, not really
09:15.37methril|worksome USB 2.0 for processing images, for sure :)
09:16.33methril|workif you use a beagleboard or other boards with graphics capabilities, could help for post-processing

09:50.37lo127does dual core support need to be configured before compilation?
09:52.55mnemocSMP?
09:54.19lo127mnemoc, don't know? my cpu is single core
09:54.45lo127but I think the default board configuration I'm using is dual core
09:54.58lo127a dual core version of the same cpu that is
09:58.20lo127having SMP active won't do any harm at least?
09:58.39mnemoclo127: just enable it ;-)
09:58.48mnemoc(in the kernel config)
09:58.50lo127disable
09:58.57lo127I'm running single core
09:59.18mnemocnothing bad will happen if you run SMP on a single core
10:01.06lo127okey, thanks
10:02.04lo127I'm guessing the same is true for "multi-core scheduler support"
10:15.03mnemocyes

11:16.07jackCardsthanks all, ideally I'm looking for the cheapest way of implementing a webcam server, on open technologies, or a standalone hackable linux net webcam, for not crazy money
11:21.23jackCardsi have a funny feeling that I will end up having to go off the shelf though
11:22.06mnemocjackCards: probably off-the-shelf will be cheaper
11:22.33jackCardsya, I was dreaming about some lovely cute hardware :(
11:23.38mnemocyou can use any tiny board with ethernet and usb out there. methril|work suggested you the beagleboard

11:26.19jackCardsall I'm trying to do is just set up a webserver, but in a cheap way, with new hardware that is reliable, don't don't want to go down the road of using second hand hardware, and Ideally us sd cards to hold the kernel, so that they are nice and solid state, to lessen the problem of hardware faults..... note dreaming again :)

11:58.06methril|workjackCards: Beagleboard is cheap for all the capabilities that it has
11:58.42methril|workjackCards: join #beagle channel or see http://beagleboard.org for more info, it's really interesting for image processing
