06:12.34cdmthose are MMU-less chips I think
06:17.35linuxdoctormeaning no memory management and therefore no linux.
06:18.42cdmwell
06:18.51cdmthere is a no-mmu variant maintained by some Samsung folks.
06:19.19cdmI might have actually fully commericalized it -- but the project got canned and the source now lives in a locked-down perforce server in Cupertino.

21:11.10amja1hello
21:11.46amja1i want to learn embedded linux , is there any books you guys recommend for a newbie who has linux system and programming exp in Cand C++??
21:14.39mnemocamja1: when I asked the same I was pointed to http://www.amazon.com/ARM-System-Developers-Guide-Architecture/dp/1558608745/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230066841&sr=8-3
21:14.55mnemocwhich I haven't bought yet but I plan to
21:15.48amja1but that seems architecture specific
21:15.57mnemochttp://www.amazon.com/Building-Embedded-Linux-Systems-Yaghmour/dp/0596529686/ref=pd_sim_b_11 is also in my list
21:15.58amja1what if i want to learn to program on ppc??
21:16.12mnemocamja1: I was told it was very good explaining the generic stuff too
21:16.44amja1mnemoc: ya i got the e-book for it
21:17.02mnemoccan only read from dead trees
21:18.13mnemocamja1: the second edition?
21:18.54mnemocif my wife permits it i'll try to save to get a http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8442724020.html :)
21:19.47amja1i hope to learn embedded linux before i  get a wife :)
21:20.00mnemoc=)
21:20.35mnemocwives (or at least mine) manages to erase my funding before I notice I got payed :|
21:21.47mnemocamja1: what ppc board do you have in mind?

22:01.01mgdmI've got that Building Embedded Linux Systems book on my Amazon wishlist, is it worthwhile?
22:01.54mnemoclinux-rt has a link to it in their frontpage
22:02.06mnemocthat's my only reference :p
22:02.17mgdmhehe

22:48.54mnemocwoh, "echo: write error: Interrupted system call" first time in my life i get this
22:49.04mnemocI should buy a lotery ticket
22:49.06*** join/#elinux wladston (n=wladston@201.80.87.51)
22:49.20wladstonguys, I'm trying to read a page from a NAND flash chip. I know that I got the WE, RE, CE, ALE and CLE right because I can read the correct chip id. When reading the page, however, it's as if the page address got lost in the middle, because the read always returns the same, regardless of what address I pass. I've quadrupled checked the datasheet and my code, I really can't find the issue. Would LOVE some advice.
23:13.04likewisemnemoc: buying a lottery ticket now would be too late. Chance of that happening again... :-)
23:35.45flybackwladston,
23:35.50flybackwhat is this nand from
23:35.56flybackwas it something you extracted
23:36.02flybackor was it part of a embedded device
23:36.03flybacketc
23:36.04wladstonIt's from Hynix
23:36.09flybackbrand new part?
23:36.15wladstonno, it's part of an embedded device
23:36.19wladstonI'm trying to hack it
23:36.35flybackare you sure you aren't running into software bad block allocation and wear leveling
23:36.42flybackand that's why you keep seeing the same shit
23:36.45flybackjust a guess I dunno
23:36.59wladstonhow can I be sure I'm not into this ?
23:37.06wladstonI'm trying to read the first pages
23:37.11wladstonfrom the block zero
23:37.26flybackno clue they would know better than I
23:37.31flybackit's just something that came to mind
23:37.32flybacksorry :/
23:37.44wladstonnp, thanks a lot for talking :)

23:38.46wladstonsame here
23:38.49flybackbut I have only dealt with nor flash
23:39.04flybackI built a plcc nor flash reader/writer out of a old cdrom with a mediatek chipset
23:39.12wladstoncoool :D
23:39.20flybackit's support of chips is very limited only 64kb-256kb max but it's better than nothing
23:39.48wladstonI'm trying to get help from people, but noone replies :(
