00:22.52T`2any automake geeks here?
00:23.08T`2i posted this in #python, but no answers.. repasting:
00:23.26T`2hey.. i'm cross compiling python and i notice automake fails when i specifiy my versions of gcc, g++ even though i give it the right lib path in --use-libs...  if i use customer cc/g++, it should try to use the --use-libs too while compiling and not the default libs in the system
00:23.39T`2i get this error: checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
00:24.11T`2but if i try the command it ran with a bunch of -L<my lib paths which i included in --use-libs> it works
00:24.21T`2so curious how i should tell automake to use these extra CFLAGS..
00:24.26T`2and LDFLAGS
00:26.27kergothjust export CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS in teh environment before running configure
00:26.46kergothitll pick em up and include them in the @CFLAGS@ and @LDFLAGS@ or whatever when configure does its Makefile.in -> Makefile
00:26.54kergothgenerally.
00:27.12T`2kergoth, hey! how are you
00:27.26kergothnot bad, keeping busy
00:27.28kergothenjoying phoenix
00:27.29kergothyou?
00:27.36T`2kergoth, yea that works.. but should i file this as a bug since i would expect --use-libs to be included automatically if specified
00:27.47T`2why repeat twice in --use-libs and LDFLAGS.. seems weird
00:28.03T`2i'm ok .. thanks :
00:28.03kergoth--use-libs is something specific to the python buildsystem?
00:28.27T`2hmm.. i think so.. i'm not sure.. i haven't look at many configure scripts to know :/
00:28.37T`2<PROTECTED>
00:28.44T`2it might be python specific.. heh
00:28.52kergoththat sounds like its for -l's, not -L's
00:28.53kergothand yes, it is
00:29.06kergoththe portable way is to use cppflags/ldflags via the environment, afaik
00:29.39kergothi always wanted to get astrocom using something sane for the distro, like scratchbox, buildroot, or openembedded, preferably he latter
00:29.53kergothbut there was never a time when there was real actual new product development, to fix shit like that
00:29.57kergothheh
00:30.14T`2lol
00:30.51T`2thanks

19:17.10mcdmxI'm looking for a decent gcc 3.x/uclibc toolchain for coldfire... any hints?
19:19.44CosmicPenguinbuild one
19:20.17mcdmxargh...
19:21.05CosmicPenguinIts not so hard
19:21.15CosmicPenguinbuildroot or OpenEmbedded can get you there
19:21.36mcdmxI already tried with buildroot, but this did not work as expected...
19:22.26mcdmxif it's not so hard - why does e.g. Dan Kegel's crosstool exist? ;-)
19:23.08CosmicPenguinThats why its not so hard
19:23.42mcdmxcrosstool doesn't support coldfire :-(
19:23.49kergothcrosstool's purpose is completely different from that of buildroot or OE.
19:23.58kergoththe latter can do what crosstool can, but the reverse is not true
19:24.02kergoththeir goals are quite different
19:24.13CosmicPenguinBut the point is there are myriad ways to get a toolchain these days
19:24.40mcdmxI only need the toolchain... so I could go with OE and this will build a working coldfire toolchain for me?
19:25.50mcdmxI think the main challenge is to pick the proper versions of gcc, binutils, etc. and find all the patches required.
19:42.32mcdmxHmm... OE does not contain any machine configuration which targets a coldfire architecture. Looks like no-one uses OE for coldfire.
19:42.48CosmicPenguinyou could be the first
