irclog2html for #elinux on 20040503

00:21.19MonMothaeh, I think I got it working kinda
00:21.43MonMothanow I just need to figure out how to convince it that yes, the 80C451 does in fact come in PDIP packaging, and yes, it is missing 4 pins that are on the PLCC package
00:31.30MonMothayou know...I do have a copy of Cadence OrCAD...
00:32.43MonMothanot linux tho :(

03:38.37sorphinTomW: shouldn't you be asleep old man?
03:39.13TomWnaw, I did a lot of that this weekend.  I was depressed and slept a lot.
03:39.32TomWRight now, I would really really like something to smoke!
03:39.45TomWcigar, pipe, whatever.
03:40.00TomWtoday was Day 5
03:41.45MonMothaTomW: you know much about using eagle cad?
03:41.51sorphinoooh... trying to quit eh?
03:42.21TomWMonMotha: yeah, I used it quite a bit, I have version 4 here.
03:42.31MonMothano, that's doable
03:42.38TomWMonMotha: 4.1 actually.
03:42.58MonMothaI'm trying to convince it that yes, the 80451 is available in PDIP64 and yes, it is missing 4 pins from the PLCC version
03:44.08TomWMonMotha: well, from what I have learned in doing schematic capture / pcb layout, the most can be gained from any package if you can develop skills in designing custom components for the libraries..
03:44.33TomWMonMotha: eagle is not too bad in doing the libraries.
03:46.56TomWsorphin: yeah, trying to quit. Today I feel like chewing on trees / telephone poles. >&-\
03:53.12TomWMonMotha: do you have the pdip-64 package already defined in a library someplace?
03:54.54TomWsorphin: one nice thing about not smoking is that my sense of smell has really improved.  My friend Amy gave me a hug earlier this evening and I can still smell her perfume on me / my clothes.
03:55.10MonMothaTomW: I have gotten to where I can assign signals for the part to pins on the package, but then it complains that I don't have all the signals assigned (since 4 are missing from the PDIP that are on PLCC)
03:56.21TomWMonMotha: that shouldn't be a problem.  You would have the PDIP-64 as a variant, just leave the extra pins unconnected.
04:01.15TomWMonMotha: where did you get the PDIP-64 from, which lib ?
04:08.10TomWMonMotha: interesting, I didn't know that excess signals & too few pads would present a problem..  Well, go into the micro-Intel library, click on "Library | Symbol", select "83C451", then click on "group", highlight entire symbol and choose "cut".
04:09.01TomWright click will "cut" the "group-ed" area.
04:09.59TomWMonMotha: next, do a "library | symbol" and enter a new name: e.g. 80C451-DIP
04:11.50TomWMonMotha: then "paste" the copied 83C451 (68 pin part) into this Symbol, edit by deleting the excess 4 pins (signals), then you can use this Symbol to marry with DIL64 package to create a new Device.
04:26.42MonMothaso basically make a new part that's only in DIP packaging?
04:27.01MonMothasounds reasonable
04:29.17TomWcorrect, just use the GROUP, CUT and PASTE operations to copy over the SYMBOL(83C451) and PACKAGE (DIL64) parts to new names so that you can do any editing and not hurt the current components.  BTW, you can cut & paste between libs, I generally have a TomW lib on the system for my special stuff.
04:30.39sorphinTomW: yeah, and you'll live a bit longer, and women will be able to stand being around you a bit more ;)
04:31.35sorphini love how i'm getting spam dated May 3rd already
04:32.02sorphinspam that came back in time
04:32.47Russwe are well into may 3rd UTC
04:33.59TomWditto
04:34.47sorphinRuss: and some just showing up from may 1st and apr 30
04:34.55sorphindelayed spam i guess
04:35.00sorphinRuss: and i don't live on UTC :P
04:42.14MonMothaTomW: OK, I'll give it a shot
04:42.22MonMotharight now, I'm tinkering with Cadence Orcad
04:42.49MonMothathey don't have a 80451 in DIP part either
04:42.56MonMothathough I'm not even sure how to design boards in cadence :()
04:42.57MonMotha:0
04:42.58MonMothabah
04:42.59MonMotha:)
04:43.03MonMothaget the right smiley...
04:43.15Russwhy are you guys discussing dip component creation for so long?
04:43.31Russmost basic component you can have really
04:43.54MonMothaI have a part that is already in eagle that I was tryign to add a package for (eagle only has it as PLCC), but the DIP package doesn't have 4 of the signals and eagle didn't like that
04:44.25Russjust copy the schematic part and make a new one then
04:44.52MonMothayes, that was the solution given
