03:31.58sorphinTomW: indecisive
03:32.36TomWno, I had the mouse set for the what I use at the ISP and the one at home is different.
03:32.56sorphinum.. ok
03:33.20TomWThe PRI card is running, but there is something wrong with their kernel module.  It ran for 3 hours, then panic'ed the kernel.
03:33.28sorphinnod
03:34.38TomWHe left the crash dump on the screen for me, I'll see if I can figure it out.  They use a bunch of state machines in the kernel module to manage the isdn connections transitiioning up / down.
03:35.11TomWit seems that it crashes when someone disconects / connects.
03:35.54TomWonce they are connected, it runs fine.  we had 6 people logged in this morning and running ok, then, boom!
03:36.48sorphinnod
03:37.18TomWI am running the 2.2.17 kernel, but I don't believe that is at issue, I have 2.2.17 running for several years without problems.  One of the machines is running two NetSpider ISDN cards to do dialout with.
03:37.44TomWso, that leaves their code for the PRI card...
03:38.32sorphinnod
03:38.45TomWNow, I gotta look for info on how to read what info the kernel panic can give me to clue me as to where / how / why it panic'ed.
03:38.49sorphinoff topic, were you able to send the simms off?
03:38.51sorphinyeah
03:39.01TomWyes, they are in the mail.
03:39.36sorphincoo
03:46.57TomWhmmm, /proc/sys/kernel/panic
03:47.58TomWif it is set to a non-zero, it will cause the machine to do a reboot after a kernel panic.  the value is in seconds.  I wonder if I a panic writes to syslog or something like a core dump?
03:53.18TomWok, I'll update the kernel to 2.2.23 to enusre that the module isn't triggering some obscure kernel bug that has been fixed..
03:57.25sorphinnod
04:15.54TomWhmmm, http://lkcd.sourceforge.net/
04:16.47sorphinah, perfect for you atm
04:44.33TomWsorphin: The kernels that I put on the simms have the 3c509 patches from the iAppliance bbs.  I cannot get it to work with my 1996 production 3c509, but you may find an older card that will work.

20:07.21GPSFanhttp://www.pcbay.net/pcbay1/dlindwpciwir.html  http://shop.store.yahoo.com/elementsources/bdfoncolwirp.html
20:07.23fileis there such a thing as a non-cardbus 802.11b card?
20:07.31GPSFanthese may be the same place though.
20:07.41GPSFanfile yep lots.
20:07.44filek
20:07.53fileI might migrate over to 802.11b in a year or so
20:08.01fileI'm on a proprietary protocol right now
20:09.45fileGPSFan: What's up?
20:10.08GPSFanfile: snow is falling :)
20:10.13fileGPSFan: oh ic
20:10.24prpplagueGPSFan: ya the + doesn't work with wlan stuff
20:10.45prpplagueGPSFan: and there are no 520's available through the standard vendor channels in 1k qty
20:11.38fileGPSFan: non-cardbus PCMCIA 802.11b card and PCI 802.11b card, what do you think for total cost?
20:11.38GPSFanprpplague: yeah, the 520 is no longer in production, so all that's left is in the disti. channels.
20:12.56GPSFanfile: the dwl520 is a radio on a pci card, no PCMCIA involved. see above $37US
20:13.16fileGPSFan: yes but I need a PCMCIA card for my laptop you see...
20:13.27fileGPSFan: Thought you might have a rough idea :)
20:15.04GPSFanic, ok then  http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=SS1023 for a plx pcmcia-PCI adapter, and...
20:15.57fileAdapter will only work with the Siemens SS1021 PCMCIA Wireless network card
20:17.51GPSFanfile: untrue, I have used it with a http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/enwir80exran1.html it soould work with any prism2 card based on the Intersil reference design.
20:23.46GPSFanfile: cards based on the Ricoh chipset: http://www.ricoh.co.jp/LSI/english/spec/assp/5c475/5c475.html can actually be cardbus, but various implementations exist, Dlink ships one with: http://store.yahoo.com/justdeals/dlindwwirlan.html which is the same as: https://secure-order.net/sn900.com/store/p65.html except the D-link lacks the regulator in the upper right hand corner.
20:25.52fileic
20:29.31GPSFanfile: with a PLX card (like the siemens) the whole assembly looks like a PCI device. whereas with the Ricoh adapter, the assembly looks like a PCMCIA-PCI bridge with a PCMCIA card plugged in. So under Linux you need pcmcia-cs as well as host-ap for the Ricoh. The Siemens card comes with the Intersil driver suite.
20:29.46chouimathttp://busycooks.about.com/library/weekly/aa021603a.htm
20:36.59fileGPSFan: How hard would it be to turn an ISA driver into a PCMCIA driver (on Linux)
20:37.23fileGPSFan: The actual ISA Card is actually the PCMCIA card with a chip that converts the PCMCIA signals to ISA... so the cards are physically the same (can even unplug the ISA one)
20:41.06GPSFanfile: if you have the source for an ISA version of the card, the pcmcia driver shouldn't be too hard to come up with. The pcmcia specific stuff you could probably lift from another similar card. CIS info, IRQ's etc.
20:41.34fileGPSFan: nice
20:41.38sjhillRuss: do they make PCI based version of the DoC programmers?
20:46.44filemmm
20:53.08Russsjhill: not that I know of
20:53.28sjhilli don't have any PC's with ISA slots anymore
20:53.31Russprpplague: *very* bad management
20:53.44Russsjhill: or mobos anywhere?
20:53.52Russsjhill: you have a webpal, right?
20:53.54sjhillno
20:54.11chouimatme have one
20:54.30Russit could be handy for that, get a 256M DOC, put it on the card, stick it in the ISA slot
20:54.59prpplagueRuss: why take up the slot?
20:55.13prpplagueRuss: why not just use something on the ide?
20:55.18Russprpplague: er...suppose one might need that for the network card

20:55.59Russthe information and communtity has way too much of a l33t factor
20:56.04Russmaybe there is stuff on freenet
20:56.14signal11Russ: what are you trying to find out about it
20:56.33RussI need to get source code for an emulator
20:56.53RussI have all the hardware, I can reroute the receiver smartcard slot internally to an rj11 plug on the back
20:57.10Russsnake that into the webpal, and put the smart card in the webpal smartcard slot
20:57.33Russunfortunately, I don't have the info on the atmel pic on the webpal as it relates to the smartcard, so I may need to reprogram that
20:57.43signal11cool project
20:57.53chouimatRuss: working on smartcard driver for the webpal?
20:57.57Russand all the emulators are written for dos or win32 with no source
20:58.00signal11sounds like you are already above what the folks on the dvb mailing list would know
20:58.01Russchouimat: I would have too
20:58.39RussI wouldn't need the fake smartcard pcb, because I could just take the smartcard slot off internally, and put wires there, its 3.3V too, so no rs232 level converters needed
20:59.14RussI think any info would have to be on usenet or freenet, because people who publish information occasionally get arrested
21:00.01chouimatI need to make that converter to flash linux to it
21:00.43RussI would be making a bunch of pcb's, but I don't have very liquid capital right now
21:07.45prpplagueRuss: i tinkered with the atmel a little
21:08.00prpplagueRuss: i pulled one off an put it on a atmel dev board
21:08.10chouimat89c52?
21:08.10prpplagueRuss: did a little testing, but didn't get far
21:08.20Russchouimat: sounds right
21:08.33Russprpplague: is there anyway to get a memory dump from it?
21:09.24prpplagueRuss: ya you can pull the image off
21:09.41Russcould you do that for me when/if you get a chance?
21:09.48prpplagueRuss: but i'm not much of an 805x guy so i didn't know what else to with it
21:10.05chouimathmmm only found a avr emulator
21:10.18prpplagueRuss: i'll see what i can do, but this wife/hospital thing, i'm a little short on personal time
