00:19.58JohnnieHi folks.  I have two X100P cards (clones from DigitNetworks) that I've configured and everything works except Call Waiting on Caller ID... it sounds like the telco's switch is sending the 440 Hz tone followed by the FSK tones immediately after that.  I have callwaitingcallerid=yes set in zapata.conf.  What do the regular Digium cards listen for for this?  And, is there anything I can do to remedy this or am I simply out of luck?
00:20.02groogs[TK]D-Fender: well, #freepbx is for freePBX, specifically.. we don't help with problems with the rest of trixbox (and being that a@h/AMP is a year old, they're not really supported either)

01:09.43De_Mon[TK]D-Fender the macro was initialy storing the variable and using Dial's G() option to process each side of the call individually -- and the variable only went with one side of the call

06:33.01brookshireAsterisk is primarily developed on GNU/Linux for x/86. It is known to compile and run on GNU/Linux for PPC along with OpenBSD, FreeBSD, and Mac OS X Jaguar. Other platforms and standards-based UNIX-like operating systems should be reasonably easy to port for anyone with the time and requisite skill to do so. Asterisk is available in Debian Stable (in version 1.0.7), and the current maintainership is done by a team, the Debian VoIP Team.

13:24.30Solaris444blitzrage: This is for end users whose machines I potentially do not control.
13:24.39Solaris444So it has to "work"
13:24.59Solaris444For example, I have a jabber server using SSL and Pandion client for Windows machines.
13:25.11Solaris444Spark for MacOSX and Kopete for Linux.
13:25.19monstedplease tell me the SIP password is at least negotiated using some sort of challenge/response :)
13:25.26blitzrageSolaris444: you could see if Yate does it
13:25.58blitzragemonsted: yes, the password is hashed using the realm, nonce, username, and password
13:26.07Solaris444Yate huh?
13:26.09monstedgood :)
13:26.23blitzragethe SIP traffic is fine -- its the RTP traffic that is not encrypted
13:26.24Solaris444OK thanks I'll look.  Sorry to be a pain.  I do like the idea of Asterisk.
13:26.36blitzragetotally separate protocols; totally seperate data flows
13:26.56Solaris444What is RTP?
13:27.01Solaris444I know what SIP is of course.
13:27.13blitzrageSolaris444: RTP is the protocol that the voice traffic is carried in
13:27.21blitzrageSIP is only for the call setup / control
13:27.26Solaris444ah.  of course that makes sense.
13:27.40blitzrageusing SIP for VoIP is really a combination of several protocols
13:27.50Solaris444*nods*
13:27.55blitzrageRTP / SDP / SIP / RFC2833 (DTMF)
13:28.04Solaris444Right.
13:28.12blitzrageyou'd be wise to go read some of the relevant parts of the RFC's
13:28.45blitzrageit'll make a lot more sense -- the SIP RFC is huge, but you only need to read about the first... 30-40 pages I'd say.
13:28.53blitzrageto understand the basics at least
13:29.04blitzragethe rest is scenarios for the most part
13:29.08Solaris444right.
13:29.16Solaris444Well, I'm glad I asked around here.
13:29.19blitzrage45 minutes well spent
13:29.21Solaris444Instead of blasting ahead.
13:29.41blitzrageSolaris444: Asterisk (and VoIP in general) is all about READING first, playing later

13:30.10monstedif i wanted to read, i'd have become a librarian!
13:30.14blitzrageAsterisk can be a serious time commitment -- its not like installing Apache :)
13:30.14Solaris444Any suggestions for client software that would be easy for average users?
13:30.35Solaris444I thought it would be a more difficult setup than what I had done so far.
13:30.38blitzragemonsted: you don't have to read anything, but it'll take you longer to figure things out, and when you get stuck, you'll be fucked
13:30.48Solaris444But for this, encrypted voice traffic is essential.
13:31.41blitzrageSolaris444: true... its fairly trivial to get something simple setup... but when you start doing more complicated things... it can get unweildy -- and a bunch of it is knowing the limitations of Asterisk and working with them, or else you simply will hit a wall
13:32.04Solaris444right.  See at the moment we have been using teamspeak.
13:32.08blitzragealthough I'm not saying Asterisk is super hard, or being an elitest
13:32.08Solaris444And it is a pain in the backside.
13:32.30blitzrageyah -- asterisk is VERY flexible. About 100 ways to get the same result, but that also makes it a bit tricky at times
13:33.00Solaris444I would rather have something with a fairly "interchangeable" as the interface. But at the same time relatively easy to use.
13:33.03blitzrageI've never used Yate or anything, and no idea how good/bad it is, or how active it is... but they *might* do SRTP
13:33.27blitzrageSolaris444: yah... Asterisk is more popular for a reason
13:33.54blitzrageSolaris444: also, if you don't have to deal with the actual voice traffic, you could use a proxy like SER to setup the SIP connections and let the end points encrypt between each other... but I imagine that's not what you're looking for
13:34.16Solaris444not really.
13:34.33Solaris444but in all seriousness, we can go with asterisk if need be.
